Dr. Patricia Heberer Rice from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum will discuss how Jim Crow-era eugenics policies in the United States served as a model for Nazi Germany. This event is designated as a Lawyers & Leaders event for UI College of Law students.
The event is hosted by the UI Center for Human Rights with support from Pentacrest Museums, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, and International Programs & the Stanley-UI Foundation Support Organization. The event was made possible through the generosity of The Leonard and Sophie Davis Fund, the William J. Lowenberg Memorial Endowment on America, the Holocaust, and the Jews, and Judith B. and Burton P. Resnick Fund for the Study of Antisemitism. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center’s mission is to ensure the long-term growth and vitality of Holocaust Studies. To do that, it is essential to provide opportunities for new generations of scholars. The vitality and the integrity of Holocaust Studies require openness, independence, and free inquiry so that new ideas are generated and tested through peer review and public debate. The opinions of the speaker do not represent and are not endorsed by the Museum or its Mandel Center.
This event will have ASL interpretation. Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact UICHR in advance at uichr@uiowa.edu.
