The Rights of the Child
In times of crises, whether it’s one experienced by an individual family, in the context of national challenges, or armed conflict, children are often the most vulnerable. As early as 1924, the international community has looked to address the rights of children. Today, the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child is the principal international human rights legal instrument that establishes states’ responsibility to advance children’s rights. The United States is exceptional in its status as the sole member of the United Nations not to have ratified the treaty.
This series examines the current status of international law, pressing crises, and advocacy strategies directed at advancing the promotion and protection of children rights by exploring conflict zones, the workplace, and hunger/immigration.
