James McKinney

James McKinney is the warden at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center, also known as Oakdale, in Coralville.  He has worked in corrections for 37 years, 20 being spent with Iowa’s Department of Corrections.  He works with the National Institute of Corrections teaching leadership, and has developed various programs to assist incarcerated individuals in becoming successful citizens, including Leader Dog for the Blind, which has raised over 600 puppies which have eventually become seeing-eye dogs.  He is also an essential facilitator of the Liberal Arts Behind Bars program with UICHR.
