Kathrina Litchfield is currently a doctoral student in Language, Literacy & Culture in the College of Education, and the founding director of University of Iowa Liberal Arts Beyond Bars (UI LABB). She earned a BA in English in 1997 and an MLIS with Distinction in 2014, both from the University of Iowa. Her research focuses on prison education and libraries as well as civic engagement and social justice in higher education. She teaches in the UI College of Education, at The Iowa Medical & Classification Center at Oakdale, and as an adjunct in human rights on the UI campus. She is a 2014 Obermann Fellow, a 2014 Imagining America PAGE Fellow, and co-founder and director of Incarcerated in Iowa, a UI Prison Partnership Program affiliate. Since 2011 she has facilitated a monthly book group with incarcerated men. At the UICHR, Kathrina assists with event promotion, scheduling, campus and public collaborations and partnerships, and directing UI's first college-in-prison program.
