Harold Walehwa

Biography

Harold Walehwa is an Academic Advisor at the Tippie College of Business, where he provides guidance and support to undergraduate students. Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Harold earned his BA from Coe College, double majoring in African American Studies and Social & Criminal Justice. He then pursued his MA at the University of Iowa in the Higher Education and Student Affairs Program.

 

With a passion for community service and social justice, Harold actively contributes to several non-profit organizations. He serves on the boards of Reaching Beyond Resilience and Advocates for Social Justice, where he works to promote mental health accessibility to underrepresented youth in St. Louis, and advocate for equitable social policies in Cedar Rapids. Additionally, Harold holds the position of Vice-Chair of the Cedar Rapids Citizen Review Board, playing a crucial role in overseeing and improving community-police relations.

 

Harold’s commitment to human rights and social justice aligns closely with the mission of the University of Iowa Center for Human Rights (UICHR Harold’s work with non-profits and his role in community oversight reflect the Center’s dedication to advocacy and community engagement. His involvement in these areas underscores the importance of human rights education and practical application, resonating with the UICHR’s goals of fostering a more just and equitable society.
