Erika Christiansen
Erika Christiansen (she/her) joined the University of Iowa Center for Human Rights in August 2021 as the Program Manager. Erika holds her B.F.A. and M.A. from the University of Iowa. Previously she worked with the UI Division of Student Life, UI Office of Outreach and Engagement, Columbia College, and the University of Missouri where she expanded her understanding of college student’s engagement with community partners. In 2021 she won the Lola Lopez Award for Undergraduate Student Advocacy, given annually by the Office of the Provost, honoring University of Iowa administrators and staff who support undergraduate education and who serve as strong, effective advocates for undergraduate students.
Her adoration for institutional outreach is driven by the opportunity to create networks of involved and educated citizens. In addition to her work with the Center's programming, Erika teaches undergraduate courses in Human Rights, and serves as the staff instructor for the President's Leadership Class focusing on experiential education and leadership through teamwork. In her spare time Erika enjoys spending time with her family, volunteering, making art, and practicing yoga.
