Second Looks for Second Chances: State and Federal Mechanisms for Decarceration

Second Looks for Second Chances: State and Federal Mechanisms for Decarceration promotional image

This webinar will discuss second-look mechanisms under both Iowa and federal law and consider how and why we need these “sentencing safety valves” to help ameliorate over-incarceration and protect the rights of people in custody. Panelists will discuss the increasingly robust ability to revisit previously imposed sentences in the federal system, and contrast federal practices to the barriers that incarcerated Iowans face in having their terms of imprisonment reevaluated in light of changing circumstances.
